My Family

Being Funny!
On Wed this week I walked to the shop with my niece Yelaina. On the way I hear this strange sound, so I look at her, she has stuck out her tongue and is making a kind of "gggggg" sound in the back of her throat. I was not sure why so I asked her what she was doing "being funny" she says. Well that was true, it was very funny!

Families are Forever
Well I said goodbye to part of my family this afternoon. It was sad to see them go. I love having family around.

This is the whole family as it was in December of 2007, since then Michelle, Yelaina and Ethan have joined us.

Let me give you the lowdown on my family.

First my parents are still happily married, for more than 40 years now, I'm not exactly sure of the exact number of years. But I do know they are happy as I see them on an almost daily basis, despite the fact that very often the end up sleeping in seperate rooms, the love is there and stronger than ever. (Let me just explain why the sleep in seperate rooms sometimes, mom is an insommniac  and very light sleeper and dad has jerky legs and snores.)

Peter is the oldest sibling. He is married to Gillian and they have 4 children, Cheryn, Zeek, Rachel and Corbin. They live on the Isle of Wight, in England. This is a picture of Pete's family in August 2007. I went over to Ireland for Rachel's baptism. Obviously the children are more grown up now, but this is the most recent photo I have of them.

Donovan is married to Eva and they have two children, Claudia and Jessica (Jessica looks remarkably like my sister Sarah, in fact in a recent photo we saw of her, she looked just like Sarah). They live in Bangor in Northern Ireland. This photo was also taken in Ireland in August 2007.

James is next married to Elaine with 3 children, Chanel, Paige and Gemma, all of whom I recently had a chance to get to know a little better. They have just relocated to Doha in Qatar where James has a great job. I keep getting told what his job is and everytime I do I think it is a great job for him, but I never can remember what it is.
These photos were taken in December 2007, in Ireland when the family was together for Christmas for the first time in 15 years, Elaine is sitting next to Paige, Cheryn (with Gemma on her lap) and mom. In the next onr James is holding baby Gemma. I do have a great photo of the 3 girls on my cellphone, but I haven't yet bought a computer cable so that I can transfer the picture to my computer, at the moment I just have to make do with what I have.

Philip is married to Michelle, they have one son, Ethan, and they live in Mozambique. They are the siblings I get to see the second most often.

I'm next in line, not married and the only "child" I have is a cat named Dirk T. Gently. T is for Trouble because when he was a kitten Trouble was most certainly his middle name.

Sarah is the youngest, married to Edward Bird, they have one daughter Yelaina, and a son one the way (he will be born in September). They live here in South Africa a slow 20 minute stroll from my house.

On this page the family member you are most likely to read about is Yelaina. She is not quite two, I'm her favourite aunty and she is frighteningly intelligent, beacuse she is so clever she is also screamingly funny. I do not wish to imply that my other nieces and nephews are not equally intelligent, the thing is that she lives so close that I see her almost every day, whereas the others live so far away.

It gets hard having my family live so far away.
